Do you know any good stories? Stories are a way for people to pass things that have happened to them and their communities on to other people. Through stories, we can learn about the right thing to do and about our history.

story A story is a written or spoken record of an event or events. Stories can be true or made up.
legend A legend is a very old story which people are not sure is true or not.
myth A myth is a very old story which tells us something about the world. Myths usually have a hero and strange creatures, like dragons.
fable Fables are short stories that teach us or warn us about something. Fables often have animal characters that speak and act like people.
tale A tale is usually made up and deals with imaghinary and exciting events.
fairy tale Fairy tales are imaginary stories about magical creatures and are read by children.
a long time ago Many fairy tales, myths and legends start with 'a long time ago'. It means the story happened many years before.
once upon a time When a story starts with 'once upon a time' we do not know exactly when it happened, just that it was a long time ago.
happily ever after When a story ends with 'happily ever after' we know that the good characters are happy at the end.
the end 'The end' marks the finish of a story.
