Using "a" and "an"
A, an, or the can be used before singular nouns. Use an before a singular count noun that begins with a vowel sound. Remember that these letters are your vowels:
- a
- e
- i
- o
- u
Here are some examples:
- An apple
- An eagle
- An alert
- An elbow
- An orangutan
