Long ago there lived a rich king. He was named King Midas. He was the richest man in the land.
King Midas wanted more riches so he asked the god Dionysus [DE-ON-I-SUS] to give him a wish.
Dionysus thought King Midas was too greedy. He wanted to teach him a lesson. He said, "What is your wish?" King Midas loved gold so he said, "I want everything to turn to gold when I touch it."

King Midas went home and everything he touched did turn to gold!
He touched a bowl of fruit. It turned to gold!
He touched a brick. It turned to gold! King Midas was very happy.
But soon, King Midas had a problem.
He could not eat. All the food he touched turned to gold.
He could not drink. All the drinks he touched turned to gold.
Then one day, he touched his own daughter and she turned to gold too!

King Midas went back to Dionysus for help.
"Please I do not want this anymore!" he said. "I made a mistake." King Midas knew he was wrong.
Being rich is not good if he does not have his daughter.
Dionysus told King Midas to swim in the river [ PAC-TO-LUS] Pactolus.
When he stepped into the water his golden touch washed away. All the food, drinks and children in his house turned back!
King Midas learned his lesson.
