A long time ago, bears had long tails.
They loved their long tails very much.

One day, a bear saw a fox sitting with some fish.
"Where did you get all those fish?" asked the bear.
"I got them from the water under the ice." said the fox.
The fox took the bear to the ice.
There was a hole in the ice and the bear could see the water.
"Put your tail in the water," said the fox. "and wait for the fish to bite."
The bear put her tail in the water and the fox went home.
The bear waited and waited.

After a long time, the fox came back.
"Bear, can you feel the fish?" said the fox. "I think there is one on your tail!"
"Quick, pull your tail up!" said the fox.
The bear jumped up. She heard a loud "CRACK!".
When the bear looked down, she saw her tail in the ice!
The fox laughed at the bear.
"You will never have a beautiful long tail now!" said the fox.
That is why the bear has no tail, and why the bear and the fox are not friends today.
