A fable is a story that teaches a lesson. Aesop wrote many fables. His fables are very famous. Look at these pictures.

A long time ago, many animals lived in the forest.

They were happy in the forest, but some hunters lived close by.

The animals were scared of the hunters.

One day, a fox and a cat were together.

"I have many tricks." said the fox.

"I know how to get away from the hunters."

"I only have one trick." said the cat.

The fox laughed.

"One trick is not enough!"

Just then, the two friends heard a noise.

It was a gun. The hunters were coming!

They heard the hunters coming closer and closer.

The cat quickly climbed up into the high tree.

"This is my trick," she said to the fox. "What will you do?"

The fox thought about all of his tricks.

He had many ideas, but he did not know which one to choose.

He was thinking so hard that he did not see the hunters come closer!

The cat was safe in the tree, but the fox was not safe.

The hunters caught the fox.

This fable teaches us that it is better to have one good idea than many ideas that are not good.
