Possessive pronouns take the place of possessive adjective + nouns. Possessive pronouns are never followed by a noun. Let's take a look at the following two examples, one which uses a possessive adjective and one which uses a possessive pronoun:

  • Possessive Adjective sentence: It's my book.
  • Possessive pronoun sentence: It's mine.

These two sentences mean the same thing. However, the possessive pronoun gives a little less information.

A possessive pronoun has to agree with the possessive adjective that it replaces. Possessive pronouns only have one form, so they stay the same whether its plural or singular.
