Discuss the following questions with your partner(s).

  1. When was the last time that you expressed gratitude for something or someone in writing?
  2. Do you typically write to someone to say thank you or do you prefer to do it in person or some other way? Why?
  3. Who in your life are you most grateful for? Why?
  4. In Writing Task 5-2, you practised writing to a business to express appreciation. How do you think a business letter differs from a personal gratitude message?

Part Two: Getting Ready to Write

The article in Reading 9-1 discussed the possible mental health benefits of gratitude writing. In this lesson, you are going to write a message of gratitude similar to the letters described in the reading.
