Part One: Warm Up

Discuss the following questions with your partner(s).

  1. Have you ever written to someone in government about an issue? If so, what did you write about? If you haven’t, do you think it’s an effective way to ask for issues to be addressed?
  2. What issues do you think need to be addressed in your community? Why?

Part Two: Getting Ready to Write

In Reading 7-2, you read about the general steps for organizing a successful grassroots campaign to make changes in your community and/or to society. One of the recommended steps was expressing your dissatisfaction in writing. In this lesson, you are going to write an email to voice your opinion to a representative in government as part of a campaign.
