Part One: Warm Up
Here are some basic facts about high school in British Columbia, Canada.
- 182 days of class from early September to the end of June
- 12 weeks of vacation in the year
- classes from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
- five hours of homework per week on average
- no homework during vacations
- class sizes limited to 30, with an average of 22
- no exams for university entrance
Now, use that information to discuss the following questions with your partner(s).
- How is/was your high school similar? How is/was it different?
- What do you think about British Columbia’s high-school system? Would you prefer this system to your own?
- Do/Did you enjoy high school? Why or why not?
