But not all deserts are hot.
The biggest desert in the world is Antarctica.
Antarctica is freezing! There is no sand in Antarctica. It is full of ice.
Antarctica is a desert because there is very little snow or rain.
About a third of the Earth is covered with deserts.
The biggest hot desert in the world is the Sahara.
The Sahara is so big that its land is part of twelve countries!
Desert animals and plants have ways of surviving in these dry places.
Plants have long roots and stems that hold a lot of water.
Animals can live for a long time without drinking water.
The desert is a hard place to live, but many plants, animals and people find a way!
