In present tense, different pronouns change the verb.

Look at these verbs. Which ones are different?

  • I like cats.
  • You like cats.
  • She/ he/ it/ May likes cats.
  • We like cats.
  • They like cats.
  • I eat fish.
  • You eat fish.
  • She/ he/ it/ May eats fish.
  • We eat fish.
  • They eat fish.
  • I read many books.
  • You read many books.
  • She/ he/ it/ May reads many books.
  • We read many books.
  • They read many books.

Only she/ he/ it changes with an s-ending.

To make a negative, add do not or does not.

  • I do not like cats.
  • You do not like cats.
  • She/ he/ it does not like cats.
  • We do not like cats.
  • They do not like cats.
  • I do not eat fish.
  • You do not eat fish.
  • She/ he/ it does not eat fish.
  • We do not eat fish.
  • They do not eat fish.
  • I do not read many books.
  • You do not read many books.
  • She/ he/ it does not read many books.
  • We do not read many books.
  • They do not read many books.

To make a question, use do you + verb or does she/he/it + verb. Don’t add "s" to the verb!

  • Do you like pets?
  • Does he like pets? (Does he likes pets?)
