Talk about it

You probably have a lock screen code on your phone, right?

Is it four numbers or six?

Do you use numbers or a pattern?

Do you use facial recognition or a fingerprint?

Does your lock screen code keep your phone safe?

________

Look at the most common passcodes and passcode patterns. Talk about what you see. What surprises you?

Do you use any of these common passcodes or patterns?

You are going to watch a short video about choosing a safe passcode. What do you think it will say? What advice will you hear?

Now watch the video to learn which passcodes are the safest. As you watch, take notes to answer these questions:

1. If you know the four numbers (0145, for example) of a 4-number code (but not the order), how many different combinations are there?

2. If you repeat one of the numbers (0450, for example), how many different combinations are there?

3. If you know the six numbers (014587, for example) of a 6-number code (but not the order), how many different combinations are there?

4. If you repeat one of the numbers (045087, for example), how many different combinations are there?
