When you’re introducing yourself, it’s important to smile and use a lot of eye contact. (If you're wearing a mask, you should still smile–you can see smiles around the eyes!)

People often shake hands when they meet in the US. Here are some tips for a good handshake:

  • Stand up when you meet and shake hands.
  • Have a firm grip. (Not too soft and not too hard.)
  • Continue to shake for a couple of seconds while you introduce yourself.

Sometimes people would rather not shake hands. In that case, you can just smile, wave, give an elbow bump, or a fist bump.
