Objectives & Sequence: This lesson is intended to be used as a preview of Grammar 7-1.

Part One

Work with a partner and practice the following conversations. Use the recordings to help you with the pronunciation and intonation of the words. Try to mimic the style of the speakers.

A: Have you ever learned to fly an ultralight?

B: Yep. I learned to fly the Mainair Blade when I was a teenager.

A: Did you take lessons?

B: Well, first I went to ground school for ultralights. There were about twenty other students in my class, and some planned to fly other types. Our instructor knew how to fly three different makes of ultralights including the Blade. It was a pretty cool class and it prepared me well for the exam.

A: That sounds cool. Do you still fly the Blade?

B: Not really, no. I've stopped since I started my training to be a commercial pilot.

A: Oh, that's too bad.

A: How's your photography project going?

B: Pretty good. I've taken some really nice shots so far.

A: What are you taking photos of?

B:I'm trying to get shots of all the different vintage aircraft on display at aviation museums.

A: Oh, interesting. Yeah, the heritage association has certainly put up a lot of works of art all over the place. Have you seen the one at the entrance to Air Park?

B: Yes, I have. That's one of the aircraft I've taken photos of already.

A: Cool. Well, let me know if you need any help.

B: I will. Thanks.

A: What do you think of this new GPS for the Cessna 172?

B: It's awesome. You?

A: Yeah, it's really good. How many times have you used it while flying so far?

B: Just two. What about you?

A: I've already used it on three trips.

B: So, that means your training is complete, right?

A: I guess so, but my instructor needs to confirm.

A: Jean, you're a pilot, right?

B:I have a pilot’s license, but flying is more like a hobby for me though.

A: Would you ever be interested being in a video on flight training

B: A training video? Um, I could try. I've never been in one before. Why would you want me in this production?

A: Because I know you well and you are professional in your work, so I think you would be great. We want people to really connect with the message.

B: Oh, that makes total sense. Okay, I'll try, but like I said, I've never done something like this before. I may need some coaching.

A: That's okay. I'm sure it'll be great.

Part Two

Look at the parts of the conversations that are in blue. These parts use the Present Perfect tense. With a partner, decide and discuss the time meaning of these parts. When did the actions they are describing happen?
