Quantity Expressions

Quantity expressions are words that tell you how much of something. They act like adjectives (review grammar unit 3) and come before plural count nouns and noncount nouns (grammar unit 2). Here are some examples of quantity expressions:

  • a lot of
  • some
  • a few
  • a little
  • many
  • much

Do you remember what count nouns are? Count nouns are nouns that you can count with your fingers. "Apple" is an example of a count noun, because you can have one apple, two apples, three apples, or many apples."

Count Nouns

  • storm
  • chair
  • boy
  • smile
  • project
  • cow
  • planet
  • t-shirt

Noncount Nouns

  • weather
  • furniture
  • gender
  • happiness
  • homework
  • beef
  • gravity
  • cotton
