Some sentences have noun clauses. A noun clause works in a sentence the same way as normal nouns do.

Sentences with noun clauses are a combination of two separate sentences.

Clauses with 'that'

You can use the word 'that' to many many kinds of noun clauses.

We can use a 'that' clause after some verbs. These are usually verbs that are related to things you can feel or think.

  • realize
  • know
  • think
  • learn
  • mean
  • believe

As mentioned earlier, you use noun clauses to combine two different thoughts.

I was going to lose the game.

I knew it.
