Animals make great pets. They love us. They give us company. But some animals are more than that. Some animals are true heroes.

Kerry the horse is an animal hero. Her owner was trying to move a cow and its calf. The mother cow got angry. She stampeded her owner to the ground to protect her young.

Kerry saw this and came to the rescue. She kicked the cow away. Her owner managed to scramble away to safety. Kerry saved her owner's life.

Togo the sled dog saved more than just his owner. He saved a whole town! Nome, a small town in Alaska, was hit by a deadly disease. They needed a special serum to save them. But there were no boats or planes to deliver the serum.

That's when Togo and his team of sled dogs stepped in. They ran over 200 miles to deliver the serum to the village. They ran over ice and through blizzards. They saved the entire village.

In 1919 in Canada, a ship was caught in a snowstorm. It started sinking. That's when Tang, a Newfoundland dog, swam out to help. He found a piece of rope and pulled it back to the shoreline. He saved the 92 people on the boat.

A powerful tornado hit Joplin, Missouri, in 2011. The strong gales destroyed the town. People's homes were ruined in the aftermath of the storm.

Lily the rescue dog worked for two weeks finding survivors in the wreckage. Every day she cut her legs and paws on the debris. But she never complained. Her heroic acts saved many survivors.

Pudding the cat saved her owner the day that her owner saved her. On her first day in her new home, Pudding saw that her owner was in trouble. She started to convulse. Her owner had diabetes. Pudding jumped on her lap and started swiping her face. She was trying to help her. But it didn't work.

Pudding noticed that her owner was trying to call her son. But her son was asleep. So Pudding ran and jumped on her son to wake him up. He woke up and gave the mother the help that she needed. I'm sure she was glad that she adopted a cat like Pudding!

Some animals are heroes every day. In fact, being a hero is their job. Therapy animals help people get through hard times. They support them and provide companionship. Therapy animals visit hospitals and schools.

Animals are loyal to humans. We should show them the same respect. Be kind to animals around you!
