The “be” verb can also be used to ask questions! To do this, you want to reverse the order of the verb “be” and the subject and then add a question mark at the end.

  • "I am happy."
    • "Am I happy?"
  • "She is crazy."
    • "Is she crazy?"
  • "They are late."
    • "Are they late?"

We usually answer these type of questions with short “yes” or “no” answers.

  • Is she crazy?
  • Answer: She is crazy.

You can’t use a contraction in these type of short answers though.

  • Yes, she is.
  • Yes, she’s.
