Sounding friendly

What does it mean to "sound friendly"? American listeners generally think someone is friendly when

  1. the pitch of your voice is higher than usual;
  2. your pitch is more varied (goes up and down);
  3. your pitch goes up ⤴ï¸? at the end.

It’s important to remember to keep your voice friendly when you paraphrase and check your understanding.

Listen to these people checking their understanding. Does the reply sound friendly?
