Listen and read along to these sentences.

What makes extreme sports so appealing? Some non-participants of extreme sports think they're fun to watch! The tricks performed by Olympic gymnasts, freeskiers and mountain bikers are often awe-inspiring because the stunts they perform require a lot of skill.

However, why are some people drawn to these sports even though the risk of injury and death are so high? Why would they continue to participate even after a debilitating accident?

Some extreme athletes engage in these high risk activities because they give them a sense of thrill and excitement. These feelings can be attributed to the body chemical "adrenaline" that is activated when you are in a very stressful situation.

Other extreme athletes like the competition that comes with these sports. Although sports like parkour are generally non-competitive, Olympic sports such as gymnastics and freeskiing are very much so!
