For your Unit 7 writing assignment, you are going to write a paragraph describing an aircraft or ATC operations you admire. Be sure to follow the basic paragraph structure.

Paragraph Structure

Topic Sentence

This is almost always the first sentence. It contains the main idea of the paragraph. In a descriptive paragraph, the main idea might be about a feeling you get from the subject. For example, are you describing something beautiful, scary, exciting, etc?

  • I have just bought my first plane, a beautiful Piper Malibu Mirage.

Supporting Sentences

Describe the topic to help the reader imagine what it looks like, sounds like, feels like, etc.

  • The engine is a Lycoming Turbocharged, so my new Piper is absolutely wonderful to fly.
  • Plus it has a Garmin G1000 Avionics Suite with some very nice safety features.

Use adjectives, specific nouns, and prepositional phrases.

  • The interior is dark blue leather, and the exterior is pearl white with black and silver striping. Both are in perfect condition.
  • It is a pre-owned 2012, but of course there is no damage history, so she is as good as new!

Concluding Sentence

This is the final sentence. It should express how you feel about the subject.

  • No other plane excites me as much as my Piper Malibu, so I know I will enjoy flying her for years to come!
