Course Description

Anthropology is not a science of the exotic carried on by scholars in ivory towers but a discipline with a lot to tell the public. One of its contributions is its broadening, liberating role in a college education. This course will examine the development of this discipline as it now exists and look at its present day contributions to society as a whole.

Course Text

The majority of readings will be taken from the following text. Other readings are on reserve in the library KOTTAK, C.P. Anthropology the Exploration of Human Diversity. New York: McGraw-Hill, Inc. 1991.

Grading

You will be expected to prepare two class presentations (topics to be discussed) during your seminar times. These presentations will be worth 20% of your total grade. In addition you will be required to submit a paper of 10-12 pages typed (topic to be assigned) which will be worth 40% of your total grade. There will be a final exam which will be worth 40% of your grade.
