Understanding

Understanding skills focus on interpreting the information you heard in the lecture in order to answer questions. These questions might ask you to identify the correct answer, understand the speaker's opinion, know the sequence of events in a process, or recognize information that has been paraphrased.

1. Look at different versions of what you just heard and identify the correct version

This skill applies primarily to multiple choice questions, where you are presented with some possible answers and need to select the right answer, or a number of correct answers. This involves listening carefully, both to what is said and what is not said.
