Objectives & Sequence: This lesson is intended to be used as a review of Vocabulary 10-1 & Grammar 10-1.

Students open the Online Dictation page, make sure "United States" is selected for native language, press the START DICTATION  button, allow the use of their microphones, and speak the following sentences. Students practice the sentences 2-3 times each, then clear the page, and try to read all the sentence in one attempt. Students should check with a partner to see who pronounced the sentences the clearest. Punctuation must be stated as well.

  • (.) = period
  • (,) = comma
  • (;) = semicolon
  • (?) = question mark

Example

  • If everyone drives safely, we will not get in an accident.
  • "If everyone drives safely (comma) we will not get in an accident (period)"

You can say "new paragraph" to go down a line, and separate your sentences.

Example

  • If everyone drives safely, we will not get in an accident.
  • If the weather is beautiful, let's go for a ride.
  • "If everyone drives safely, we will not get in an accident (period) (new paragraph) If the weather is beautiful, let's go for a ride (period)"

Open the Online Dictation page, allow the use of your microphone, and practice the following sentences. When you are confident in your pronunciation, clear your results. In one attempt, read all the sentences and email the results to your teacher.

  1. They must have left for their road trip. Their car isn't in the garage.
  2. Look at this stain on the pavement. The car must have leaked oil. 
  3. The road trip must have been amazing; she won't stop smiling.
  4. The concert can't have been canceled; they said the music was great.
  5. The driver might not have seen the speed limit sign back there.
  6. You must have woken up early to drive all this distance.
  7. Their motorbike might have broken down. She said it was running rough.
  8. She is a very skilled mechanic. She might have been able to fix it.
  9. You couldn't have emailed me the paint estimate. My internet is down.
  10. They must have fallen in love; look at their smiles.
