Objectives & Sequence: This lesson is intended as a review of Media 8-3 and Grammar 8-1 & 8-2.

For your Unit 8's final writing assignment you are going to write three paragraphs that explain why the electric car is not very popular in America now. Do this by using the Present Perfect tense to describe how the Past connects to the Present. In each paragraph, you will use facts from Unit 8's Media (Exercises from 8-1, 8-2, & 8-3), as well as your own opinions to describe what happened. It is important that your points are clear and that you give good reasons to support your answer. Be sure to follow the basic paragraph structure that you learned in Unit 1.

Paragraph Structure

Topic Sentence

  • This sentence has the main idea of the paragraph. In a description, the main idea should be a general feeling you get from the subject. For example, describing one reason you believe electric cars are not popular now in America.

Supporting Sentences

  • Describe the main idea in detail to help the reader imagine what it looks like, sounds like, feels like, etc.
  • Use adjectives, specific nouns, and prepositional phrases.
  • Explain your main idea using specific information from your source; for example, information from Unit 8's Media.

Concluding Sentence

  • A final sentence expressing how you feel about the subject (your strong opinion).
