When examining the causes and/or effects of a given event, situation, problem, etc, you may need to use statistical information to support your ideas. A good writer is able to interpret a fact and use it to prove or strengthen a causal relationship. Remember that a fact is an objective truth, but your analysis of the information can be speculative. In other words, you can offer possible ways that a fact may prove your point.
