Because the purpose of an Opinion Essay is to persuade the reader, you need to consider why the reader needs to be persuaded. In other words, why would someone disagree? Considering these questions is important because it helps you to formulate a stronger argument. If you can anticipate possible objections a person might have to your argument, you can address those points in your essay and strengthen your overall composition. As you studied in Unit 3, the two possible ways to respond to an opinion is to refute or to concede.
