In English we use verbs. Verbs are a part of speech. Verbs express action or condition. Many times we have verbs that have two parts.
Verb + Preposition = Phrasal Verb.
The two words work together to make one meaning.

Turn + On

Example:

Please turn on the light.

Sit + down

Example:

Sit down when you go to class.
