Reading 7-1: Fiction and Nonfiction
Writing can be put into 2 categories:
- Fiction

- Nonfiction

Fiction is from the imagination. The writer imagines the characters, settings, and actions. Fiction writing can be similar to the real world and the setting can be somewhere on Earth, but the writer still imagines everything.
Nonfiction is writing about the real world. News articles are nonfiction. History is nonfiction. If you watch a documentary, that is nonfiction. Textbooks are nonfiction. Science and Math are Nonfiction.
Nonfiction does not have characters. Nonfiction may have real people, but they are not characters.
Fiction is for entertainment.
Nonfiction is for information.
