Talking about dietary restrictions

Inviting someone often includes eating or drinking. For some people there are some types of food or drink that they don’t or can't eat or drink.

What about you?

  • Are there any foods you can’t or don’t eat? How do you tell other people?
  • Are there any people you know who can’t or don’t eat certain foods? Why?
  • How easy is it to find food you can eat and that you like?

What to say

To tell other people about what we can’t or don’t eat, we usually just say,

  • “I can’t/don’t eat/drink ____.” or
  • “I’m allergic to ____.”
