The strong ‘er’ sound is particularly part of North American English (Canada and the US). In many other parts of the world—such as England, Australia, Kenya, and others—the ‘er’ sound is sometimes not pronounced or is pronounced more softly.

Notice that differences in pronunciation are not right or wrong, just different.
