Gestures are a part of body language that communicates information between speakers. You are going to see a card with the meaning of a gesture that we have studied. Your partner can’t see the card. You will show the gesture to your partner. Your partner should ask a question/say something that shows they understand.

Intro Student One Student Two

In this activity, you will use one of the gestures and try to get your partner to guess the gesture. Your partner will ask a question to check their answer.

  • Work in pairs. One of you is Student One, the other is Student Two.
  • If you have three people, two of you can take turns, working with the third member of the group.
  • Click on your page (Student One or Student Two).
  • On your page, read the instructions and then take turns making the gestures. Your partner will see the gesture and say what it means in the form of a question.

For example:

________
Student One: [Read the card to yourself. Don't read the card out loud!] Make the correct gesture. ?
Student Two: [Ask a question.] Do you hope that you will win? or Thank you, but I won’t need luck.
Student One: [If your partner gets it right, give them a thumbs up: ?. If your partner gets it wrong, shake your head.]
