Are you ready?
Get ready to give a very short presentation about the American holiday that you learned about or about another holiday that is important to you. First, let’s get organized.
Speeches that are organized are easier to understand. Often speeches in the US have the same organization:

Introduce yourself and then 1. Tell the audience what you’re going to say. 2. Say it. 3. Tell them what you said. |
Hi, my name is __ Today I’m going to tell you about an American holiday called ___.
I hope you enjoyed my presentation about ___ (holiday) which is famous for __, __, and __. |
Other tips
- It’s always more interesting to watch a presentation that includes pictures. Can you find some images to show that will help your audience understand your holiday?
- It’s also more interesting if you tell a story. Do you have a story about this holiday? Can you interview an American to tell you a story about it? Like this:
-
- Can you tell me a little bit about _____?
-
- Do you celebrate _____?
-
- What do you do on that day?
- What’s your favorite memory of _____?

Remember to practice, practice, practice. You can just practice in your head. This is a good first step to deciding what you want to say and how you want to say it. But it's also important to practice out loud so you can work on your fluency and clear pronunciation.
