  • To persuade me why you are ready to graduate


Audience – me, your English 140 teacher

Format – Business Letter

Greeting 

Place your contact information in the upper left-hand corner, equally tabbed and aligned, followed by the date. Place the contact information of your chosen audience beneath the date. Begin by formally greeting your chosen audience. Use Dear Mr./Ms.______________:

Body                                                                                                                                 

Answer these questions in the body paragraphs of your letter. Be specific!

1. Which essays did you choose and why?

2. What did you do to revise and make the essays better?

3. Why do you think you are ready to graduate from the class?

4. What have you learned from the class and/or what things could I improve in the class for next quarter?


Closing                                                                                                                              

Use an appropriately formal closing and sign your name. Sincerely, etc.

Remember: This letter is the introduction to your portfolio. Although it won’t receive a score, it is important to make sure that you have communicated your ideas clearly and have used correct grammar and spelling. Anyone who read this should be persuaded that you are ready to graduate English 140.
