Discuss the following warm-up questions:
- Do you prefer going out to eat or eating at home? Why?
- What is your favorite food?
- What is your favorite restaurant? Why?
- Would you ever like to own a restaurant? Why or why not?
Work in a group of 2-4 students.
- Open this link: Inlander (teachers should adjust this so that it is a local restaurant review. If that’s impossible, internationally for instance, this link can be used: Yelp. If you use yelp, go to a city and then restaraunts.)
- Choose a restaurant review to read.
- After you choose a story, check with your teacher to make sure it is appropriate.
- Begin reading the news story with each other. When you come to a word that is unfamiliar, write it down in the course vocabulary document (your teacher will share the document with you). You will define these words later.
- When you are finished, you will read the story again with the rest of the class, and define the vocabulary words.
