When most of us are asked to write something, we get out our phones or a piece of paper and just start writing. We may have a vague idea of what we want to express, but we write the way we speak, one sentence after another. This is why most writing is not very good. If we want to make our writing effective and persuasive, we need to spend more time thinking and planning before we put words on the screen.

In order to write well, we need to follow a plan. There are many steps in creating a piece of writing. We call this The Writing Process. We can break it down into 6 steps:

  • Understand the Task
  • Generate Ideas
  • Identify Your Main Idea
  • Organize
  • Draft
  • Revise
