Look at the first paragraph of a larger Reading, which is only an Introduction to the topic. In your group, predict what you believe the rest of the reading will be about and some of the topics that might be discussed. Try to find the General Statement and Thesis Statement in the Introduction and write your summary of them in Exercise 4. Try to rephrase vocabulary as much as possible.

Obesity

One of the trending health issues that seems to be in the media constantly is obesity and how Canadians seem to becoming more and more overweight. However, there is a lack of knowledge in the general public about what it means to be obese. First a definition of the state of obesity as a medical condition needs to be given before further discussion. After this, the prevalence of obesity and its inherent health risks will be outlined.
