We can talk about what happens in a movie or a book by sequencing the events. The events are the important things that happen in the story. For example, in the Harry Potter stories:
- First, Harry finds out he is a wizard.
- Then, he goes to Hogwarts to study.
- After that he makes friends with Ron and Hermione.
- Also, Voldemort is the bad guy trying to kill Harry.
- In the end, Harry defeats Voldemort.
We use sequencing words to tell the story:
- First
- next
- then
- also
- finally
- in the end
- additionally
- when
You can talk about your life using sequencing words and phrases, too.
- I was born in Australia.
- When I was 5-years-old I moved to Canada.
- When I was 21-years-old I went to university in America.
- After university I travelled the world as a teacher.
- Finally I returned to Canada to be a writer.
