A conclusion paragraph is the last paragraph in an essay. It begins with a transition and a restated thesis, reviews the main points of the essay, and ends with a big idea, which can be advice or a prediction for the future.

A conclusion paragraph should not introduce new ideas. It should leave the reader with a sense of closure at the end of the essay.

In short, desertification is a problem caused by overgrazing, lack of crop rotation, and improper irrigation practices. When people place a higher value on profit than sustainable use of limited natural resources and fragile environments, then desertification is a possible result. Unless we take steps now to reverse the desertification process, by limiting grazing, rotating crops, and conserving water, we might not have the ability to feed people in the future. If desertification is allowed to continue, then we will all be faced with the consequences of limited food production.

  • What is the transition?
  • Can you identify the restated thesis?
  • Is any advice given or predition made?
  • What is the big idea?
